For men only

For men only

Many parks are designated for families or women only, with single men actively prohibited entrance. But near Burger King roundabout two gardens are the realm of men.

Actually, these spaces hardly qualify as gardens. They are more like green lawns that happen to be open to the public. Both lack amenities and charm. However, until more aesthetic and varied facilities are built, their location in the older neighborhood of Madinat Khalifa South lend them enough interest to make them worth checking out if you live nearby.

Al Morona Garden is an open grass field with a few trees and bushes. This park isn’t for everyone. It serves predominately as a lung for the neighbourhood, cleaning toxins out of the air. Men from the neighbourhood flock here in the evening to joust with each other in games of football. Male children romp beside them. On hot days fathers may consider taking their children to stomp through the sprinklers. The grass is usually watered in the morning.

A few blocks down you’ll find Al Morob Garden, a quiet, lazy field located in the bottom of Ibn Sireen Street. Large, mature trees provide shade and limbs for climbing. For the less agile they provide a dappled spot for a picnic or barbecue.

The space seems to be a favourite spot for neighbourhood teens and pre-teens to hang out, usually from the metal chin-up bars. Aside from these ageing bars, no play equipment or amenities are available but the field is large enough to accommodate a pick-up football match, some frisbee tossing or a toddler’s somersaults.

The street surrounding the field lends itself well to joyriding quads. Be careful of tipping quads when driving here. Women should note that this park is located in a residential area that is predominately male and most of the visitors are also male.
