First Qatari to scale Everest

First Qatari to scale Everest

Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulla al-Thani has made Qatar proud by becoming the first Qatari man to climb Mount Everest.

Joining him on this expedition were Raed Zidan – the first male Palestinian to summit Mount Everest, Masoud Mohamed, Raha Muharrak – the first female Saudi Arabian to summit Mount Everest and videographer Elia Saikaly.

As brand ambassador of Reach Out To Asia (Rota), Sheikh Mohamed set out to scale the world’s highest mountain to raise $1 million (QR3.64 million) for education projects in Nepal. Read full report here.

A passionate mountaineer, Sheikh Mohamed has summitted several mountains in the past as part of his personal challenge to scale the Seven Highest Summits of the Seven Continents of the World. Visit his official website or  Facebook page for more information and pictures.

On May 29, the world will celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary’s ascent of Mount Everest. For more updates, visit the Everest 60th anniversary Facebook page.
