Qatar should ensure a reliable legal framework for contractors: Merkel
Qatar has been urged to ensure ‘reliable legal framework’, by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
According to a report by Chicago Tribune, Merkel was referring to the multi-million dollar infrastructure projects for the 2022 soccer World Cup.
“For the engagement of German companies in Qatar, it is very important that tender procedures are fair and transparent and the legal framework is reliable,” Merkel has told a Qatari business and investment conference in Berlin.
Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, speaking at the forum, said investment in infrastructure would reach $160 billion by 2019.
The German Chancellor’s comment is particularly relevant, given the complaints by contractors on how they are treated, the continuous blame game for projects that are delayed (case in point, Hamad International Airport and Bechtel) and the copyright violation accusations.
